The contents of our December wine subscription

It’s December which means it’s the final subscription delivery of 2023! Over the past twelve months, we’ve curated our best-selling wine subscription, the Juice Box, to bring you the best canned wines out there. This month is no different so without further ado, let’s dive in.

It’s December meaning it’s the law to drink sparkling wine. When we found out that Defy were releasing a new frizzante wine, we had to earmark it for this box. This wine is a semi-sparkling Sicilian white wine that is truly vibrant. (It even says so on the tin.) It has an effervescent sparkle in the glass with aromas of peach and a lovely textured mouthfeel. The perfect aperitif to get party season well and truly underway.

Our next wine comes from South Africa from a special brand called Lubanzi. Set up by two friends and named after a wandering dog that they met on a hike in South Africa - the locals named the dog Lubanzi and the brand was born. Not only do they make fantastic wines; this one is a 100% hand-picked Chenin brimming with apples, passionfruit and lemon zest, but they also do good. Lubanzi are B Corp, Fair Trade Certified, Carbon Neutral, part of 1% for the Planet and what’s more, they give 50% of their profits back to the hands that make the wine.

Moving onto our next white wine for December subscribers and it’s a rather unusual one, too. As part of their second release, Candour has launched a Riesling from Luxembourg made by a female winemaker. Tick, tick and tick. The grapes have been sustainably farmed by the Moselle River using drones as part of the farming toolkit. They have been hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel and have spent six months ageing on the lees. This Riesling is zesty, peachy and very special.

Our next canned wine hails from Pavia, in the Lombardy region of Italy and is a Pinot Nero. It’s juicy, delicate and very approachable. On the palate, there’s red berry fruit flavours of strawberry and raspberry with gentle tannins. A very food-friendly wine which pairs best with ‘earthy’ dishes like duck or mushrooms.

Italia Pinot Nero
from £4.00

Last month, subscribers got to sample The Copper Crew’s new white wine but this month is all about their red. The Copper Crew’s new range comprises of a trio of organic, Italian canned wines. Their red wine is a blend of Negroamaro, Sangiovese, Nero di Troia and Aglianico grapes. It’s classic in style and is a deeply coloured ruby in the glass. It’s velvety and full on the palate with aromas of black plum, berries and chocolate, too.

There is no better time to get the dessert wines out than at Christmas so let us introduce you to ‘Worcester Sauce’. A world-class dessert wine from the Worcester region of South Africa made from Red Muscadel grapes. It has notes of ginger, caramel, cinnamon and dried fruits which is an extremely festive combination. We like this one slightly chilled and poured over ice at the end of a meal. It also pairs well with almond biscotti or soft cheeses like mascarpone.
