The monthly wine subscription reveal: April edition.

Welcome back to the monthly reveal of the contents of our best-selling canned wine subscription box; the 6 can Juice Box.

If you’re new here, our Juice Box is our ‘mixed’ wine subscription. It changes with the seasons and is the only box whose contents completely change every month. This blog post covers our most popular sized box, the 6-can version. You may receive different cans on the 3 and 4-can wine subscriptions.

We love discovering new wines here at Brixton Wine Club, and this month is no different. We are extremely excited for our subscribers to try this brand-new can that arrived recently from Flint Vineyard. It’s part of their Flint Labs project where they trial new wines in small batches. Their No.1 Hazy Bacchus is a skin-contact ‘orange’ Bacchus that they’ve left unfiltered, so it looks a little ‘hazy’. It’s tropical, textured and fresh with an oxidative character.

We’ve really been enjoying the range from Hand’s Off and think our club members are going to love this new addition to the club. It’s their low-intervention Riesling made in the Rhine area of Germany. In the glass there’s aromas of green apple, citrus, peach and apricot. There’s a lovely balance between acidity and a long, lingering finish. It pairs well with seafood, salads and of course, ‘Schnitzel’ making it a perfect wine for this time of the year.

The third wine included in our subscription is an orange wine from Defy made using 100% Verdejo from Spain. The grapes in this wine were hand-picked and left to ferment for just over a year in steel tanks. The skins are left on to give it this unique colour so please decant this into a glass to appreciate it! This is a great introduction to orange wine for anybody wanting to try it.

It’s officially rosé season and this next is a gorgeous blend of four grape varieties. The Copper Crew’s Rosato has Primitivo, Negroamaro, Nero di Troia and Aleatico grapes. There are cherries and summer fruits on the palate with floral notes of magnolia which comes from the Aleatico grapes.

With the weather beginning to warm up, albeit slightly, it’s time to think about chillable reds. Beaujolais is a great red wine for chilling and this 100% Gamay from Fleurie is no exception. This light-bodied and fruit-forward red has a concentrated nose of raspberries, redcurrants and red cherries. It’s very smooth and best enjoyed ever so slightly chilled.

The final can our Juice Box subscribers will receive this month is a classic Rhône blend made in South Africa by Lubanzi. This is a G.S.M. which stands for Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. This wine is full of soft red fruits and a warming spice from the wine undergoing some oak ageing. We’ve included this wine as it’s a perfect pairing for grilled BBQ meats.
